Dear MES Families,

Summer is here, and I'm sure you are excited to spend some well deserved time with your children! Summer is a great time to relax, have fun, and make sure your child continues to progress in their academic abilities. It only takes a small amount of time to make sure your child doesn't suffer from summer reading (and math) loss. Here are a few ideas.

1. Read with them daily. (At least 15 minutes a day will really help them.)

2. Play board games, guessing games, or draw together.

3. Have your child keep a summer journal. They can write a few sentences about what they did each day, and then draw a picture.

4. Grab a grade level workbook from Costco, Learning Palace, Target, or anywhere that sells them. Have your child do a few pages a day, just to stay caught up.

5. Have your child write a letter to their 2017-18 teacher. They may not know who they are yet, but this would be a great way for the teacher to get to know students before the year starts. This can be addressed to Monmouth Elementary: Future (whatever grade) teacher.

There are many ways you can help support your child in their learning. The MES staff believes that parents are our partners in helping all students to succeed. Enjoy the sun, and we hope to see everyone at our Open House on August 31st! (More information will be mailed to all parents!)

Sincerely,
Kim Seidel
